Deal With Foreign Airport Security
Victoria’s advice for avoiding detainment in foreign lands.
“When my uncle passed away he was given a gun salute. We had his name engraved on the shells. I carry one as a good luck charm and a remembrance. When we went overseas to Singapore, I had the shell in my purse and went through customs. So they ask me what I’m doing with the shells and I said, ‘It’s an empty shell, there’s no bullet.’ They brought five people over to interview me, including police and military. Everybody was thinking, ‘Oh boy, what did Victoria do now?’
Eventually they understood what it was but they wouldn’t let me take it. I asked them if they could send it back to me, and I was told well I’d have to contact the Singaporean government. It’s now months later and I still haven’t gotten it back.”
Check It
“If you have anything that you think might not make it through customs, put it in your luggage and check it. Do not put it in your carry-on.”
Cover Up
“It’s hard for us Divas to dress business casual, but we need to be careful about showing too much cleavage. In some cultures women are covered head to toe. You need to know about a country’s culture, especially when it comes to showing skin.”
Read Up On The Rules
“If you have any questions about customs, go online. You have no excuse to say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know this.’ You have the freaking internet at your fingertips. Use it.”
