Diva Dish: Giving thanks
By Kara A. Medalis with Zack Zeigler
Written: November 23, 2007

In this week’s special edition of Diva Dish, Kelly Kelly, Maria, Jillian, Victoria, Michelle McCool, Layla and Mickie James talk about what they’re thankful for during this Thanksgiving holiday. It seems that when it comes to the Divas, it’s all about family.

“I’m thankful for my family who has supported me through everything” the ECW’s Kelly Kelly said. “They basically encourage me to follow my dreams. Family is my No. 1 thing. I am very passionate about that.”

Maria described her family as “amazing and understanding” because they support her through thick and thin.

“They understand that my dreams are my dreams, and they respect that. Not too long ago, when I asked my mom about a big decision, she said, ‘You’ve always made good choices so far. So just keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t worry about what we’re going to think because we’re here. We’re standing behind you,’ ” the Raw Diva said.

“I’m thankful for being young,” Maria continued. “I’m thankful for my amazing job. I have the greatest job in the world. I’m very, very thankful for that. Other than that, there are a few special friends that I’m also thankful for.”

Jillian told Diva Dish she’s grateful for a number of things. While she didn’t mention Britney Spears’ new album, Raw’s songstress mentioned her loved ones, too.

“I’m thankful for my family. I am thankful that I am woman, hear me roar,” Jillian laughed. “I’m thankful that I live in Kentucky.”

Victoria said she’s thankful she’s been in the sports-entertainment business for seven years.

“I think I’m an inspiration to women coming into this business. Really, seven years is a long time in this business and I’m still going strong,” the SmackDown Diva said. “I think I’m thankful for being such a positive inspiration to kids. I’m a strong woman.”

Like many of the other Divas, Michelle McCool is thankful for her loved ones.

“I’m thankful for my parents, the rest of my family — my brothers and cousins — and my friends,” the SmackDown Diva said. “I’m thankful for my job. I’m thankful for the clothes on my back and the roof above my head.”

Now that she’s seeing more in-ring action, Layla said she’s giving thanks for her well-being.

“Recently, I think I am more thankful for my health. I’m thankful that I can get up every morning,” the ECW Diva said. “I’m thankful for just being an independent woman, and being out here in the world, traveling so much.”

Mickie James told Diva Dish she’s most thankful she gets to spend the holiday with her family and friends.

“When you think about the season of Thanksgiving, and you’re sitting around with your family, that’s special. That’s important. Your family’s always going to be there for you. They’re always going to love you,” the Raw Diva said.

“I know I’ve said it a million times, how thankful I am for my horses and my job. I say that, period, even when it’s not Thanksgiving. You have to be thankful for what you have. If you’re not thankful for what you have, why would the universe give you anything else?” Mickie contemplated.

The Diva also shared some of her Turkey Day plans with Diva Dish, as we recently learned Mickie is one heck of a cook.

“I make killer, the absolute best, sweet potatoes that you will ever have in your life. That’s my traditional Thanksgiving dish. I make that and green bean casserole. I will not give out my yams recipe, but I will give the green bean casserole recipe. Those are my two specialties,” she explained.

“There have been a few years where I’ve done the whole Thanksgiving dinner by myself, like last year. I had Thanksgiving dinner at my house and my family came. Now, I’m going to another WWE Superstar’s family’s house, so I’m only making a few dishes,” Mickie continued.

“But I am making my mad sweet potatoes/yams. And I don’t need any compliments, because I already know they are off the chain because I make them every year. But I am hoping they will like them and I hope they’ll say they like them!” she smiled.
