This week in Diva Dish, Mickie James, Jillian, Kristal, Queen Sharmell, Cherry, Layla, Brooke, Kelly Kelly, Victoria, Torrie Wilson, Beth Phoenix, Maryse, Melina, Maria, Lilian Garcia and Candice Michelle talk about their favorite summer songs. Michelle McCool, Brooke and Victoria talk about their home lives; while Jillian reveals an embarrassing airport mishap.
Sweet and sexy sounds
Last week the Divas told us about their favorite summer concerts and festivals. This week, the Sexiest Women on Television discuss the songs that heat up the summer.
“The song that reminds me most of summer is probably that song in Grease, ‘Summer Nights,’ ” Mickie James said, breaking into song. “Summer lovin’ happened so fast… I could steal Jillian’s job. I’m a better singer!”
While we didn’t tell Jillian about Mickie’s teasing, we did ask the Raw songstress about her favorite summer tune. (Guess what? It’s not by Britney Spears!)
“Well, you know my favorite singers are Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, but they don’t remind me of summer,” Jillian said, rolling her eyes. “How about that ‘Soak Up the Sun’ song, by Sheryl Crow? Now that’s summery.”
Kristal said she can name a few songs that remind her of summer, but her favorite is her cell phone’s ringtone.
“There are a couple songs, but right now my ringtone is ‘Summer Love’ by Justin Timberlake,” the SmackDown Diva said. “ ‘Summertime’ by Will Smith is a big one, too.”
“Every year there’s a new, hot song that comes out in the summer. Remember that LFO song, ‘Summer Girls’? It went ‘I like girls who wear Abercrombie & Fitch’. That song came out when I was in high school, so that reminds me of summer back then,” Kristal said. Hmm… wonder what she and Theodore Long’s wedding song will be?
A few other Divas also mentioned Will Smith’s “Summertime.” Even though she’s the regal ruler of Raw, Queen Sharmell isn’t afraid to remember her pre-royalty days when it comes to music.
“The song that reminds me of summer is ‘Summertime’ by Will Smith. Roll down the windows and go cruisin’ in your car, popping a fire hydrant for old time’s sake and just go playing out in the middle of the street. It reminds me of the good old days,” Queen Sharmell reminisced.
“Of course, I’ve never popped a fire hydrant, you know. Seriously, I haven’t. I’ve seen people do it in the movies, and it looks like fun – kids playing double-dutch, and all that stuff,” she explained. “It’s just good, clean fun. But yeah, ‘Summertime’ is the one song that just puts a smile on my face every time.”
Cherry said she is easy to please when it comes to cranking the tunes.
“I like just about anything on the jukebox, or whatever Deuce & Domino want to play in their hot rod,” she said with a wink.
When it comes to Extreme Exposé, Layla, Brooke and Kelly Kelly are all about songs you can dance to.
“I’d say definitely Will Smith’s ‘Summertime.’ That’s just a classic one. Also, ‘Push It’ by Salt-n-Pepa. And last year when I taught dancing at the kids’ Miami Heat camp, ‘Miss New Booty’ by Bubba Sparxxx was the song of the summer,” Layla said.
“My summer song would be Fergie’s ‘My Humps.’ I don’t know why, but every time I go to the club in the summer, that song is always playing, droppin’ it like it’s hot, you know what I’m saying?” Brooke smiled.
“And I love the ‘Thong Song’ by Sisqó. I was probably like 14 or 15 when that song came out. I just remember being with all my girlfriends, in a car, jamming out to that song,” Kelly Kelly said. “I would never in my life wear a thong to the beach when I was that age! Now I wear thongs all the time. That song is so great and it just makes me dance. It’s fun!”
When Diva Dish asked Victoria about her favorite summer tunes, the SmackDown Diva recalled her days growing up in the Golden State.
“My favorite summer song, since I’m from California, is ‘California Love’ by Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman. That always reminds me of home!” the SmackDown Diva said. “Also, when I was growing up, we’d lay by the pool and my mom would play a lot of Elvis and Pavarotti, so those remind me of home and summer.”
Two of the Divas cited “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. (Matt Striker would not be pleased.)
“I guess it would be ‘School’s Out’ by Alice Cooper. You know, when you’re in high school you always listen to that when school lets out,” Torrie Wilson said.
“I’d have to say, ‘School’s Out’ by Alice Cooper, just because that was our anthem when school was out,” Beth Phoenix said. “It was just this feeling of relief. Summer vacation has come and it’s time to kick back and have fun, so that would probably be my summer anthem.”
Maryse told Diva Dish she can’t pick just one song, but she can name her favorite artist.
“I love Eric Lapointe, he’s a French artist. He’s the best ever. He has so many songs, though. I can’t choose just one,” the SmackDown Diva said.
Talk about a blast from the past – Melina picked a true ’80s classic as her summertime hit.
“Whenever I think of the word summer, I think of the The Karate Kid song, ‘Cruel Summer,’ by Bananarama,” the Raw Diva said.
Maria went with a song that’s been on the charts more recently.
“The song that reminds me of this summer is by Joss Stone and it’s called ‘Tell Me What We’re Gonna Do Now,’ Maria said. “It’s on her CD that came out in March, but that song reminds me of this summer.”
Raw ring announcer Lilian Garcia certainly knows her music. The songbired picked a hit that was nominated for the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 2006.
“I love ‘Feel Good Inc.’ by the Gorillaz. It makes me feel good,” she said. “It’s a lot of fun, the Divas are always singing to each other. I love that song.”
Finally, Candice Michelle had a tough time with this question. You know when you have a tune stuck in your head, but you just can’t think of the lyrics?
“It goes something like, castles in the summertime…” she said as Maria walked by. Candice pulled her fellow Raw Diva into the conversation and hummed the tune.
“Is it a techno song?” Maria asked.
“It’s that song about castles in the sky,” the Women’s Champion said to Maria.
“That’s a techno song!” Maria replied. “Are you sure it’s not ‘Cruel Summer’?”
“No, it’s not ‘Cruel Summer,’ but I swear they played it on The Karate Kid. ” Candice said, puzzling Maria. “Oh, I give up! That might be a made up song, but it makes me think of summer!”
Still lovin’ life
While the Michelle McCool: All-American Girl series of exclusive videos has ended its run on WWE.com, the SmackDown Diva told Diva Dish she’s still lovin’ life.
“I just want all our fans to know that I am lovin’ life. Why am I lovin’ life? Why wouldn’t I love life?!” Michelle McCool laughed. “I live in Florida, by the beach. When I go home, I relax. After I throw some clothes in the laundry, I hit the beach and soak up the sun all day long and I’m lovin’ the Florida weather!”
Home-girl
Brooke also told Diva Dish she enjoys her days off spending quality time at home sweet home with her beloved pets.
“I’m just training a lot. I go home, I train, I take care of my two snakes, and that keeps me pretty busy. I’m so focused right now. I’m not really going out and partying anymore,” she proudly admitted. “I’m working on my career. I’m putting that ahead of everything. I’m working out and eating well, training and taking care of my animals.”
Flick chick
When Victoria has time off, she also likes to stay close to home, kick back and relax, and turn on the tube to watch a good movie or a favorite TV show.
“On my days off, I’m very much of a homebody. I like to rent movies. I like funny, old movies like Animal House or Young Frankenstein. I even like to watch episodes of Family Guy,” the SmackDown Diva said.
“My new favorite show is The Sarah Silverman Program. She’s cute! One of my friends said she reminds him of me. Maybe it’s because sometimes I don’t think before I speak. I always end up with my foot in my mouth,” Victoria laughed. “But I think she’s hilarious. The show is so funny. She’s a strong female. She’s very opinionated, too.”
Heelys mishap
Recently in Diva Dish we told you about special footwear near and dear to a few Divas’ hearts – Heelys. Well, it seems Jillian is a fan of the rollerskate/shoes, too. Or maybe we should say she was a fan until an airport accident.
“I fell in the Louisville airport. I was with somebody, and I walk so much faster than them, so I said, ‘Look, just go to the gate, I’ll get the food and I’ll meet you over there, OK?’ ” the Raw Diva explained.
“I was all fast, and I had my Heelys on. So I got the food, I had a drink in my hand, I had a backpack on, and I was walking really fast through the airport on my toes. I accidentally went on my heel and fell in front of everyone!” she said, stomping her foot.
“People were concerned, but they probably laughed when I left, though. I jumped right up and said, ‘Ooh, that’s what I get for wearing rollerskates on my shoes!’ Then I took off because I was embarrassed!” Jillian laughed.
Lucky, lovely No. 8
