Ten Questions with Lisa Marie Varon: The Psycho Speaks
February 14, 2003
There have been a lot of rumors about your knee and you needing surgery. What is the current state of your knee?
– I have been having issues with the connective tissue in my right knee. I saw a sports doctor who said that there is some ACL damage, probably due to years of gymnastics movements in both cheerleading and fitness competitions. They made a kneebrace for me, and I feel that with the brace, I am 100%. Surgery is not necessary, and I have absolutely no plans to take time off from wrestling.
What is your favorite city to work in?
– Everyone loves their hometown, and I love mine. When I go to Los Angeles, all my family comes to watch. Plus I love the sunny weather, and there is so much fun stuff to do if I happen to have a little free time.
How do your workouts differ from fitness competitions and wrestling?
– When I competed in fitness, the workouts were much more intense and physically demanding. But there is a lot more discipline involved now that I have less time and I must find a satisfactory gym in a foreign community.
Do you have any pets?
– I have two Sealpoint Siamese cats named Coco and Chloe. They’re 5 and 6 years old, and they’ve moved all over the country with me. I also have a 5 month old Mini Weiner Dog named Pookie. She is only seven pounds, but she is pound for pound the most destructive force known to man.
If you were to pay to watch one match, who would be in it?
– I think it would be a triple threat match with Kurt Angle, HHH and Benoit. Kurt is an amazing entertainer, HHH has an unparalled presence, and Benoit has incredible intensity and wrestling skills (of course there would be a run in by Victoria…wink, wink).
What is your favorite thing to do with your free time?
– I really love to work out. It’s therapeutic for me. I don’t know if that counts because I need to stay fit anyways for work. I also love to clothes shop. I could get lost in a mall.
Who is your favorite person to hang out with backstage?
– The girls lockerroom has a super positive vibe, and all the Divas are fun, but I love to hang out with Fit Finley (who directs the women’s wrestling program). I follow him around like a little kid. Not only is he funny and respectful, but I love to listen to him analyze and pick apart matches. It’s a constant learning experience.
What is your favorite food?
– When I train well on the road, I always eat out at Tony Roma’s my first night home. For one, I love BBQ ribs. But also, I get beef ribs, and give the big bones to my little dog, Pookie. She goes to town on them. It’s my entertainment for the week.
What would your occupation be if you weren’t a wrestler?
– When I was younger, I wanted to work in the medical field. After college, I was employed by a tissue bank where I removed organs from recently deceased people for transplantation. It sounds morbid, but it gave so many people a second chance at a normal life. I hope to return to that field when my wrestling days are over. (by the way, be an organ donor)
